8th & 9th February 2019

Connecting queer (LGBTIQ+) people across India through literary experiences that inspire educate and entertain and provide a platform to initiate dialogues between the government, political parties and the queer community. Awadh is a region in the state of Uttar Pradesh and mainly includes Lucknow and surrounding districts. We propose to hold ‘Awadh Queer Literature Festival (AQLF)’ in Lucknow and aspire to become an annual event that brings together queer literary community together across India to share pleasure and power of the language. Lucknow, capital of Uttar Pradesh, provides a perfect setting for such a vibrant festival as it has a long history of literature, cultural and literary events and of acceptance. And with Section 377 becoming history, it is the right time for queer literature, politics, and ideas to claim its own space. In the past two years, Lucknow has successfully held several queer related events such as Pride Walk, Film Screening, IDAHOT events, photo exhibition, queer performances, etc. and have established great networking with FM Channels, Universities and Civil Societies. The event will provide an opportunity to build interface for the mainstream society to interact with the queer community through literature, interactive and Q&A sessions. It will be a two days event to be held on 8th & 9th February 2019 in Lucknow.
